Juan Manuel Marquez still unsure of 5th Pacquiao fight, even if he does defeat Timothy Bradley

Even with his very own fight date with Mike Alvarado on May 17th at The Forum in Los Angeles, the shadow of Manny Pacquiao still loomed in interviews and conversations media had with Juan Manuel Marquez. The winner of his bout on HBO is scheduled to face the winner of Pacquiao vs. Bradley 2, and if Pacquiao wins you would expect to see Pacquiao vs. Marquez 5.

Not so fast. In every interview he did, Juan Manuel Marquez said he would rather have a wait and see approach on that prospect. He choose to tell media that he has to focus on Alvarado first and still even then he would not be sure he would face Pacquiao.

His trainer and hall of famer Nacho Beristain, has gone on the record as saying he would rather see his pupil challenge a welterweight champion outside of the WBO. The prospects of that though are slim to none. Marcos Maidana is the current WBA welterweight champion (and is fighting Mayweather on May 3rd) while Shawn Porter owns a version of the welterweight crown. Both fighters are under contract to Golden Boy Promotions making Marquez’s options pretty much the winner of Pacquiao/Bradley 2.

That is if he beats a very determined Mike Alvarado. In this video scrum below, Marquez talks the unique challenges of that fight as well as Pacquiao and Timothy Bradley.
