As the World Cup comes to a close so to does the countdown towards Canelo vs. Lara. The bout has turned to a sort of grudge match as the usually cool-headed Alvarez has been effected by the public taunts of Erislandy Lara over social media. Yesterday, Lara held a media day in which he and his team tried to hype his PPV bout with Mr. Canelo. Funny thing is, they were able to attract Canelo in a way, as a Canelo impersonator showed up to liven things up.
As the days tick away towards July 12th, one can’t imagine and think that the World Cup will have some sort of effect on the PPV match up.The final will be played at the Maracana in Rio De Janeiro on July 13th in which Brazil looks to vanquish the ghost of the 1950 World Cup. The selcao is a favorite to make it to the final but just like in a fight, upsets have been happening left and right in this years tournament. Upsets in which that have translated into more people watching this World Cup and following everything to do with the World Cup than prior cups past.
All eyes have been focused on the beautiful game and this includes major outlets from the US and Mexico. Outlets which normally would be all over the buildup to this PPV if it was not a World Cup year. Wether or not it has any affect remains to be seen, but we can tell you from talking to our media friends at the big outlets, their priority for up until July 13th is the World Cup.
So with that said, it will be interesting to see how this Canelo vs. Lara PPV does factoring in this and the name of Erislandy Lara. Since you read through all this I guess you can go ahead and check out Lara below…you kinda earned it after me blabbing away…
