With his career on its last leg and coming off two-straight losses, three-division champ Miguel Cotto has enlisted the guidance of hall of fame trainer Freddie Roach to help end his career on a high note.

Cotto is making a smart move teaming up with Roach, as Roach has a proven track record in the ring and has what it takes to light a fire under Cotto.

Despite losing his last two bouts, Cotto still is a big name in the sport and has a huge fanbase to support him no matter who he fights.

Losing two fights in a row late in any fighters career could be the knockout blow that ends it all. Not with Cotto. He lost to a talented Austin Trout in a lackadaisical performance and arguably gave pound-for-pound king Floyd Mayweather the toughest fight of his 44-fight career in May of 2012.

Cotto (37-4, 30 KOs) told Roach he has three fights left in him and if all goes as planned a showdown with middleweight champ Sergio Martinez should be on the horizon.

The first fight with Roach and Cotto as a team appears to be against Delvin Rodriguez (26-5-3, 14 KOs) a fight that Cotto should have no problem winning if he is focused. Rodriguez is 3-4-2 in his last nine bouts and should be great confidence booster for Cotto.

One has to give it up to Cotto, as some fighters this late in a career would be hard pressed to change anything in their camps, as they are accustom to what they have been doing for years. For Cotto to reach out and ask Roach for his help is a huge indicator that Cotto is in fact serious about making one last title run and with Roach’s track record, Cotto may retire a champion once it’s all said and done.
