Floyd Mayweather Jr. has set a time that he will hang up his gloves and call it a career telling a crowd at a gala dinner in South Africa that he will fight his last bout in September 2015 The Associated Press reported (via Newsday).

The probable date would be Saturday Sept. 17, 2015, if Mayweather follows his usual September fight date that correlates with Mexican Independence Day, which would be Friday Sept. 16 in 2015.

Mayweather has four fights left on his six-fight Showtime deal he signed in February 2013, with May 3 being the next bout rumored to be against Amir Khan.

If Mayweather’s pattern holds true then the five-division titlist would fight the fourth bout of the deal in September of this year, the fifth in May 2015 and his finale in September 2015.

The news that Mayweather is planning his retirement after his massive Showtime contract runs out is surprising because if he can win out the remaining four fights his record will stand at 49-0. This would tie Mayweather with Rocky Marciano with the most fights won without a loss, going for the 50-0 mark would set him apart from an all-time great.

Once Mayweather fulfills his Showtime contract it is believed that the undefeated champ will have earned around $200 million off those six fights alone. Mayweather probably won’t be too worried about one more victory with his bank account being the real winner in the end.
