Danny Garcia wants to return in March or April of 2014

Danny Garcia had a awesome 2013. Like super awesome, so awesome that it would make a Ninja Turtle scream Tubular. He started the year by disposing of Zab Judah in April and then would go on to defend his 140 lbs titles against favorite Lucas Matthysse on the Mayweather vs. Canelo undercard. Garcia was seen as the underdog against the Argentinian knockout machine.  He was able to stay calm, cool and collective as he managed to close  his eye which lead to the eventual unraveling of the challenger.

It was perhaps Garcia’s second biggest career win behind taking the unified titles away from Amir Khan. With 2014 soon approaching, Garcia is looking to step back into the ring in March or at the very latest April of 2014, wanting to have two or three fights. The 140 lbs division is a staked one, but a division that Garcia has just about cleared out. It leaves us scratching our heads and wondering who could fight Garcia in a significant fight? With him disposing of Matthysse do you really want to see him take on Lamont Peterson? It wouldn’t happen anyways as Peterson has a fight coming up in January. It really is slim pickings with the only other major name in the division being WBO 140 lbs champion Juan Manuel Marquez.

Jesus that would be a awesome fight. Yea we know, it won’t happen. Just as Garcia matched up with Adrien Broner will not happen. So it leaves Garcia with a real crisis whose solution could be a forced move up to welterweight. A rematch with Amir Kahn opens up as well as interesting match ups with Devon Alexander, Shawn Porter, Andre Berto and Robert Guerrero just to name a few. It would be a move that would benefit Garcia financially as well as his legacy as if he continues his winning ways he would most certainly position himself strongly for a Mayweather bout later in the year.

Garcia is not concerning himself with all that at the current. To him the most important thing in this upcoming new year is to stay positive, keep healthy and continue to win and give fans great fights. He certainly did so in 2013 and for our sake we hope continues just that in 2014.
