Adrien Broner will show if he’s ready to be PPV star against the heavy-handed Marcos Maidana

Adrien Broner will get one of the toughest challenges of his career as he looks to add to his rising star power when he faces Marcos Maidana Saturday night at the Alamodome in San Antonio, Texas.

Broner (27-0, 22 KOs) has hopes of becoming boxing’s next big star, leading the next generation of boxers once Floyd Mayweather Jr. calls it a career in the next few years. Maidana (34-3, 31 KOs) will test Broner’s ability to take a punch more than anyone he’s faced thus far and that will be one of the things many will be watching for in the bout.

On a three-fight win streak heading into his match with Broner, Maidana has knocked out the likes of Jesus Soto Karass, Angel Martinez and Josesito Lopez during that span.

Broner will have to keep the cocky antics to a minimum against Maidana, as he could easily get caught with a bout-changing shot in the midst of one of his infamous acts of disrespect he’s done countless times in his fights.

Maidana will try to make the fight a slugfest as he is known for pushing the action in his fights, and it will be interesting to see how Broner handles such a bout.

Broner is a pay-per-view star in the making and this bout was changed to a non-PPV bout after originally being set for it and could be his proving ground to give Showtime more confidence to make the fans pay to see him fight.

The fight will mark Broner’s first defense of his WBA welterweight title that he won in his last bout against Paulie Malignaggi earlier this year. Malignaggi challenged Broner early in their bout, but Broner pulled away in the latter rounds and won more decisively than the split-decision outcome may suggest.
