Catching Up With Rising Flyweight Danny Martinez

Interview brought to you by Century MMA

FHTV: Talk to us about your last fight and how do you think a rematch would go?

DM: My last fight was good to the point of how i felt before going in to the cage i was feeling on top and that no one could’ve beat me that night but as it would show Jussier Del Silva got the best of me and he won by his great composer and bjj black belt skills. By no disrespect I believe I gave him to much respect on the ground by not taking him down in the first round and controlling the top position for me to land some good elbows or punches. If we ever got a shot it would be in the UFC at !@% and I know I would not have the same game plan. I would take him down and try to punish him against the fence on the ground.

FHTV: Tell us about your up coming fight?

DM: My next fight is in my hometown of Tempe, Arizona and I am very excited to get back home to where i started my career with my friends, family and crowd behind me to push me to do what I do best, push for a dog fight. The guy I am fighting has some good bjj but I am not to worried about him as I was Jussier on taking my back. So I am gonna get in there and use the tools I have to finish this fight as soon as possible but in a way to show the crowd how much I appreciate their support.

FHTV: What organization are you fighting for and who will you be fighting?

DM: I’m fighting for Rage In The Cage, January 29th 2011 at Wild Horse Pass and Casino against Aldo Escudero (Fighters that started their careers in
RITC are Dominick Cruz, Seth Baczynski, Drew Fickett, and Efrain Escudero who is the main event.)

FHTV: What does it mean to be fighting in front of family and friends?

DM: It means the world to me to fighting front of my friends and family if you know me as a person that’s my number one priority in life because its short and the times are hard to get people together now and when I fight they come through to show there support and its a great atmosphere.

FHTV: What adjustment’s have you made for your up coming fight?

DM: Worked on a lot of combination’s in my striking and a lot of bjj. I definitely put the gi on when I got back to the gym, but I am still in the workings of getting better, I didn’t have much time since my last fight.

FHTV: What are your goal’s for 2011?

DM: My goals are to be at the top of the flyweight division and the first UFC champ at the weight when it arrives to the public eyes.

FHTV: If you weren’t a fighter, what would you be doing?

DM: I would be working my ass off in the flower shop warehouse with my twin brother JOJO, but if so anything I am always working to be the number one person at anything I do.

FHTV: Who do you think are the top 3 guys in the 125 lb division in the world and who do you want to get your hands on next?

DM: Number one, Jussier De Silva. Number two, Joseph Benavidez if he drops to it which I believe he would. Number three Alexis Villa. I believe he’s got the most potential out of the 125 division to be a great fighter. I have no pull in who I fight but if I did I would take on every one in the top ten they have ranked at my weight class just to get another shot to Jussier, which I believe the UFC should have an eight man tourney to showcase their fighters, if they’re not gonna put them on TUF on Spike.

FHTV: What do you think about Dominic Cruz vs. Urijah Faber and how excited are you at the thought of that fight going on, if Urijah beats
Eddie Wineland?

DM: I think it is gonna be great for the little guys. Those two are gonna put on a fight and they got the most recognition then anyone in that weight
to put on a high pace fight that could bring in more fans to the UFC if possible.

FHTV: Are there any sponsor’s and friends you would like to thank?

DM: Magnetic Marketing Associates and Alliance Training Center in Chula Vista, California!
