In the continuing ongoing saga of who will train Julio Cesar Chavez Jr., not much has been said or reported outside of the fact that Chavez Jr. did in fact contact Nacho Beristain for his training services. That was reported a few weeks back, with a huge sticking point being money and how much dedication Jr. would have coming into a training camp. Outside of that we have heard close to nothing, so when we ran into Freddie Roach last week, we got some insight as to what is going on with the whole situation, “I have not spoke to Jr., but I spoke to his manager Billy Keane and I am still in the picture though it is really up to him,” said Roach.

If the partnership between Roach and Jr. is to continue, Roach still stands by his stipulations that he declared after the loss to Sergio Martinez, “If he misses a day of training, I am going home. We had five great fights together, we won all five fights and then the 6th fight he wanted to train himself. He only trained five days with me and he almost pulled it out but it was still a bad performance.” Ultimately Roach and many others feel that if Chavez Jr. does not get his act together he will ultimately fall into the category of the “what if” with roach agreeing that he could become a waste of talent, ” Yea a waste of talent and I just do not know what got into his head we had a formula for success and he wanted to change it. Hopefully he gets back up there and starts working hard again and I would love to work with him if he wants to work.”
