Shane Mosley says Maidana would make a better fight for Mayweather, not Khan

Shane Mosley has fought some of the best fighters of the past decade including Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather Jr., so any input he has on a possible fight, especially against a fighter he has faced, has to be warranted.

Mosley expressed that he thought a Mayweather-Marcos Maidana bout would be a better fight than the more rumored bout with British star Amir Khan.

Although Khan beat Maidana a few years ago he has proven to be a better fighter after his loss to Khan in 2010. Since the loss, Maidana has a record of 6-1, with four wins coming by way of KO or TKO. Maidana beat notable fighters during that span including Mayweather (45-0, 26 KOs) protégé Adrien Broner, Josesito Lopez, Jesus Soto Karass and Erik Morales to name a few.

During that same span Khan (28-2, 20 KOs) has fought six times, going 4-2 in those bouts, losing his bout with Danny Garcia in 2012 via fourth round TKO. Khan’s best win after besting Maidana (35-3, 31 KOs) is a KO win over Zab Judah in July 2011. Khan has shown his chin to be questionable and was knocked down in his last bout against Julio Diaz, which he went on to win via unanimous decision.

A lot of fans and media think that Khan could give Mayweather trouble because of his hand speed, but that really won’t be an issue if they fight. As Mosley alluded to, Mayweather finds angles to throw punches that keep him out of harm’s way for the most part, making it extremely difficult for anyone to land a solid blow.

The defensive prowess of Mayweather often discourages fighters from sticking to their game plans and Money May exploits that in his favor, usually making for an easy win.

Miadana trying to make it a slugfest instead of a strategic boxing match will serve him better and also make for a better fight for fans. Maidana will not only have the “puncher’s chance” opting for a aggressive attack, there will also be plenty of spots for Mayweather to land power shots of his own, giving fight fans a more entertaining bout.
