Paulie Malignaggi ” Saul “Canelo” Alvarez is not ready for Floyd Mayweather Jr.”

Add one Paulie Malignaggi to the list who feels matching Saul “Canelo” Alvarez with Floyd Mayweather Jr. may be a bit premature for the young twenty-two year old champion. Since his dominant win over Josesito Lopez, Mayweather’s name has come up as a potential opponent though many are favoring matching the current WBC 154lbs champion with either Miguel Cotto or Sergio Martinez. Malignaggi though gives credit where credit is due as he believes Alvarez is a ever evolving fighter, “Alvarez is impressive each and every time out. Every time he comes out he shows me something different. Though I would like for him to improve on his defense…”

Malignaggi points out one major flaw everyone has seen in Canelo Alvarez, the young Mexican fighter is prone to getting hit regardless if he is ever in danger or not. This was shown in the Lopez bout and many feel improvements in this area and in lateral movement/foot work would make Alvarez someone truly special. On the undercard of the same bout between Alvarez and Lopez a improved Marcos Maidana turned in a TKO performance over Jesus Soto-Karass. Maidana surprisingly worked his jab which eventually set up the stoppage. Malignaggi who holds a version of the welterweight title, touches a bit on that potential match up which you can check out below.
