Oscar De La Hoya Expects Agbeko To Pressure Mares

This up-coming Saturday April 23, Fight Hub TV will be live from the Nokia Theater at LA Live in Los Angeles to witness who will be crowned the number one Bantamweight contender in the world. While many will say this tournament will reveal that top Bantamweight in the world, one has to take a step back and yell farce. The man who is clearly on top of the division is WBO and WBC Bantamweight champion Nonito Donaire, whose second round knockout of Fernando Montiel skyrocketed the young Filipino fighter onto a new level of popularity.

What can be said for the winner of this weekends final between Mares and Agbeko is that they will hold the key to unifying the division as a potential unification match up with Donaire looms present. The final between young prospect Abner Mares and the old guard in Joseph Agbeko is the result of both fighters winning their first round match ups in Showtime’s inaugural Bantamweight tournament this past December. Mares of course had a tough and controversial win over hard hitting Vic Darchinyan, while Agbeko won his IBF bantamweight title back in a rubber match against then undefeated Yonnhy Perez.

Mares and Agbeko are expecting to knock each other out as Mares recently commented to us that his “style will make me do anything I want.” Mares of course is hoping his action style will be too much for the crafty Agbeko, who displayed in his last fight with Perez that he can take a punch but also give one. Who better than to give a preview of this upcoming Saturday’s main event than Oscar De La Hoya himself, who caught up with fight correspondent Marcos Villegas to talk about no only how he believes that bout will play out but shares the origins of how the Golden Boy discovered Abner Mares and much more!
