We recently paid a visit to UFC welterweight Mike Pierce at the Affliction Gym, in Seal Beach to talk about his upcoming UFC 143 match up this weekend against welterweight veteran Josh Koscheck. Pierce who had Chael Sonnen and Yushin Okami as training partners feels he had more than enough preparation in the wrestling department to combat Koscheck’s impending take down barrage, “I know what he is going to do and we prepared for it in the gym.” Pierce anticipates a tough bout with Koscheck and acknowledges his wrestling pedigree, “I know he has a better pedigree than me, but wrestling for MMA is a whole different thing.”
When asked about what a win over Koscheck would do for his career, Pierce admitted that it would put him up there in the welterweight rankings but at the current moment he does not want to ponder any of that until he gets the win over Koscheck.
