Jake Ellenberger is looking forward to showing us that Rory MacDonald is all hype.

Is it me, or has Jake Ellenberger been the quietest welterweight who has won 8 out of his last 10 fights? Ellenberger is quietly but methodically decimating his opponents, and aside from his loss at the hands of the severely underrated Martin Kampmann, and split-decision loss on his entry fight into the Octagon to contender Carlos Condit in 2009, he has positioned himself for a title shot. And you know what? If he gets past Rory MacDonald, I want to see it happen.

But as I said, Ellenberger has been quiet. He’s just another dude in the Octagon, and most fans don’t really know who he is. But recently, he’s stepped up the Chael Sonnen quotient and has been trash talking Rory MacDonald with every chance he gets. Some of it has been pretty good too. Furthermore, he’s not impressed with Rory MacDonald and his hype after beating up on what Ellenberger feels are some less than stellar opponents. Jake Ellenberger feels like Rory MacDonald has been created by the media hype machine.

Our beat reporter, Michael Mardones talked to Ellenberger and asked him why he’s changed up his style, taking to Twitter to call out Rory more and more and we got an interesting response:

“You know, let’s talk about me, not Rory and the skills I bring to the table. He…(laughs) I don’t buy it. I don’t buy it. He’s a skilled fighter but he’s fought some 55ers and he’s been invented by the media. The media invented him and sold it to the fans and they bought it up. I’m looking forward to showing that.”
