Once former Manny Pacquiao strength and conditioning coach, Alex Ariza, started popping up in pictures on various social media outlets and eventually websites attending Floyd Mayweather Jr.’s training camp for his rematch with Marcos Maidana, it caused an instant stir in the boxing world.
Despite Ariza never being officially named to Mayweather’s camp it is still implied that he is working with the 46-0 fighter in some fashion, even though Mayweather Jr. himself said he just stopped by to check out his workouts.
Mayweather Jr.’s father and trainer, Floyd Mayweather Sr. doesn’t know what his son sees in Ariza and is surprised he is working with him in any capacity.
“I don’t even know what Floyd (Jr.) wants that bum (Ariza) for,” Mayweather Sr. said. “That man ain’t no f—ing good.”
With Ariza working with Maidana during his training camp for the first bout between the two, it perplexed Mayweather Sr. to what he was doing anywhere near Mayweather Boxing Club.
Despite him never seeing Ariza in the boxing gym, if he did see Ariza Mayweather Sr. said he had something for the controversial figure.
“I ain’t seen his ass in here, “he said. “If I see his ass in here I got something to tell his ass my goddamn self.”
When questioned to what he might tell Ariza, Mayweather Sr. said, “What the f—k are you doing in this camp?”
This wouldn’t be the first time Ariza was in a conflict with a high profile fighter’s trainer, as in the build up to Pacquiao’s bout with Brandon Rios last year, he got into a physical altercation with Pacquiao’s trainer, Freddie Roach, where Ariza kicked Roach.
With all of the fouls that occurred in the first fight between Mayweather Jr. and Maidana in May, Mayweather Sr. put some of the blame in Ariza and said, “he has been no good for years.”
Too bad Mayweather Sr. never ran into Ariza as that would have made for one hell of an entertaining scene on Showtime’s documentary series, All Acess.
