We’re coming up on 11-months since Fabricio Werdum was able to submit Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira after TUF: Brazil 2 played its course, and while at the time, we expected Fabricio Werdum to be fighting for a title by this time, and injury to Cain Velasquez has set circumstances in motion for Werdum to get back into the cage despite being the number one contender.

The Fedor-Killer will now be facing probably the most hyped up and comer in the heavyweight division since Cain – Travis Browne. Browne has one scrath on his nearly flawless record – a TKO loss to Bigfoot Silva after Browne tore his ACL in the Octagon.

Werdum is becoming the Kevin Bacon of MMA – you can link anyone to him. Between his brilliant BJJ career and his fighting (and beating) nearly every name in MMA, Werdum is staring down the path of another title shot with just one more bump in the road before Velasquez and Mexico City.

Marcos Villegas visited Werdum at King’s MMA to talk about family life, and his plan to take down Browne and do to him what he’s done to so many – finish him.

The last fight I had was in Brazil against Big Nog. I was waiting for Cain, but he had shoulder surgery. We can’t wait any longer, it’s been just about ten months without a fight so of course I need to fight. I can’t be away one year without a fight. People would ask, ‘Who is Fabricio Werdum?’ If I waited for Cain.

It was difficult, every fighter wants to fight for the title, so I was sad at first. If I knew he was going to have surgery I wouldn’t have waited so long. I would’ve fought two more times. I believe three or four fights a year is ideal for a fighter.

It’s five rounds, so it’s almost impossible it won’t go to the ground.
