Anthony Pettis talks Henderson vs. Diaz – “Not trying to concern myself with the outcome”

by Petey Jones
Anthony Pettis is intimately familiar with UFC champion Benson Henderson. He is, after all, the man who dethroned Henderson from the top of the WEC food chain way back when in the WEC’s final show in December, 2010 (remember the Showtime kick off the cage? Of course you do.) Showtime was greeted unceremoniously to the UFC by Clay Guida and Clay Guida’s smothering hair, losing his debut. But since then has narrowly defeated Jeremy Stephens and knocked Joe Lauzon the hell out at UFC 144 in February of this year. Pettis has been on the shelf since then, recovering from injuries and a mild case of staph, but now the Duke Roufus protege is preparing for a fight in Donald Cerrone that has turned personal with **** talk flying on your social network of choice. Mostly Twitter.

We caught up with the final WEC champion and potential UFC lightweight contender about his upcoming fight in Chicago on FOX, his thoughts on Ben Henderson vs Nate Diaz, where he fits in the lightweight rankings and who he’s rooting for in the matchup.

“Honestly, I don’t care. For now I’m not going concern myself, I did that before. I want to fight this guy, or this guy. You kill yourself thinking about that. You have to focus on who is in front of you.”

Truer words can’t be spoken. Pettis is back in the cage at UFC on FOX 6 in Chicago against Donald Cerrone – January 26th, 2013.
