Vasyl Lomachenko on if he has faced better competition than Gary Russell Jr. in just two fights

lomachenko

You gotta give Vasyl Lomachenko credit for what he is trying to do with his pro career. Though it may not be popular with fans or fighters, Lomachenko made it no secret to Top Rank that he wanted a world title shot in his first fight. With an amateur record of over 300 fights and just one defeat, you could say in a way he could make a big jump and challenge for a title. He made a successful pro-debut stopping a top ten guy in the featherweight division and then Orlando Salido happened.

In his second pro fight Lomachenko was given a shot at the title but lost to Salido via a ugly split decision. You would think at 1-1, Lomachenko and Top Rank would press the brakes on his career and start building him little by little. NOPE! This Saturday, Lomachenko will face undefeated Gary Russell Jr., a guy that is faster and more talented than Salido for another crack at a world title in just his third fight.

Overly ambitious or not, Lomachenko deserves props and is taking a huge risk. One that can see him become a world champion in just three fights or one that could seriously derail his career for many years.

I speak to him about the match up below!
