Dong Hyun Kim: -220
Paulo Thiago: +180

Larry Pepe brings up excellent points about both men, Paulo Thiago exploded onto the scene at UFC 95 in 2009, where he knocked out Josh Koscheck in a major upset, but has fizzled against much of his bigger, stronger competition. The Brazilian not only gives up a size and strength advantage, but also a reach advantage should the fight stay on the feet. While Kim’s striking will likely never be his strongest skill, “Stun Gun” has shown vast improvement on the feet, as he demonstrated against Sean Pierson, a serviceable boxer. While Thiago holds a clear power advantage, he has done historically poorly against sturdy top position grapplers, and the judoka is notoriously strong from the top position, which may not bode well for the Brazilian.

Conversely, Damon Martin, although not steadfast in his opinion, is of the opinion that Paulo Thiago could very well win the fight using his aforementioned heavy hands as well as superior submission game. Surprisingly not mentioned, is Kim’s tendency to come out gassed in the third round when he’s forced to grapple, where he essentially punches himself out. If Thiago were to win this bout, the biggest opening for him should be in the final stanza.
