Tyron Woodley wants to fight Rory MacDonald immediately.

Can we stop and take a moment to contemplate just how deep the UFC welterweight division is right now? At UFC 158 alone, you have arguably the top six welterweights alive fighting, with GSP, Nick Diaz, Rory MacDonald, Carlos Condit, Johny Hendricks and Jake Ellenberger all looking to close in on GSP’s belt. Who is missing from that equation outside the UFC? Ben Askren? Maybe. Either way, one of the grandest welterweight tournaments (kinda) ever is going down at UFC 158, and Tyron Woodley wants to throw his scary elite wrestler with knockout power hat into the ring.

Joining Sherdog Radio today was Tyron Woodley who just days removed from his horrifying beatdown of Jay Hieron at UFC and he wanted to make his presence known. This is what he had to say about the men above him in the rankings right now, and specifically Rory MacDonald, who he wants next.

“I want to fight [Rory MacDonald]. If anything happens with Carlos Condit, God forbid, or something happens with that fight, I already told Dana White. Nobody’s calling him out for a reason, because he’s freaking unreal. But if you wait, you think he’s going to stop getting better? In two years, this kid’s probably going to be one of the best fighters in the game. I’d rather knock his butt off now like I knocked off [Tarec Saffiedine’s] just before he got the Strikeforce gold.

Everybody’s been Tweeting about [Demian Maia]. I don’t mind the fight. If he fights me the way he fought Fitch, then it’s not that dangerous of a fight. He just took him down and jumped on his back. I think Demian Maia’s tough. He just didn’t really impress me very much. I think if you match us up, it’s going to be a boring fight and we’re both going to get hella flak. I would rather fight [Nick] Diaz, Rory MacDonald, Condit. I would rather fight one of those guys, to be honest. They’re going to bring out the fight. They’re going to make me fight harder.”

Oh yeah, let’s not forget Demian Maia. I would love to see him vs. Woodley if this talk leads to anything. But seriously, Tyron Woodley presents a major problem to every single one of the fighters above him with his freakish wrestling and cardio. Not to mention he’s also only getting better. The top ten of the welterweight division is just plain scary.
