Toughman Hawaii recap and results

Toughman returned to the Hawaiian Islands last night kicking off the first tournament of the year. Fighter’s ages six to fifty three competed in this tournament and they put on a great show for all the fans in attendance.

In the main event it was Hilo’s Chris “Maverick” Cisneros taking on Oahu fighter Karl “Da Hamma” Sua. Cisneros showed why he is the 808 Battleground one hundred and seventy pound champion by controlling the fight with his long legs and powerful punches. Sua showed a great deal of heart but was just out matched and after the second round ended his corner let the referee know that he could not continue, awarding the win to Cisneros. In the co-main event it was B.J Penn Just Scrap one hundred and thirty five pound champion Reed Akashi taking on Carlos Rincon. Both Akashi and Rincon put on a heck of a show but in the end it was Rincon getting the win via unanimous decision.

In great under card action God’s Army fighter Ben “The King” Santiago took on Kona Boxing Club’s Kaeo Myers. It took Santiago twelve seconds to finish Myers with a left leg kick to the head that sent Myers to the canvas. Although Myers is indeed no slouch Santiago looked like a killer on a rampage last night. In what was the crowed pleaser of the night, Sergio “Da Monsta” Mamone took on Ashton “One Whack Medavac” Castro. You could not tell by Mamones’ performance that he has not been in the ring for sometime, his body shots sent Castro down more than once. Castro also seasoned fighter sent Mamone to the canvas with a strong knee, but in the end it was Mamone who received the unanimous decision. Sergio was not the only Mamone going home a winner, Sergio’s two sons Kamuela Mamone (12) and Rickey Mamone (7) both defeated their opponents in the junior novice division. It was a night full of celebration for the Mamone family not only for the wins but also for his son Rickey’s birthday. A cake was presented to Rickey in the middle of the ring by his proud father and the H.I.B.C team members.

Nui Kahele got knockout of the night awards by stopping Kawehi Linkee in the second round. Linkee came out throwing heavy punches and pursuing Kahele for the majority of the first round and into the second. Just when things really started looking bad for Kahele he threw a right uppercut that caught Linkee square on the chin sending Linkee to the mat surprising everyone in attendance.
