Chael Sonnen thinks Jon Jones is ‘considerably better’ than Anderson Silva.

Is this statement by Chael Sonnen a testament to the size of his (ahem) brass balls or is he still making digs at Anderson Silva, a man who has finished Chael twice, for no real good reason? Really, it’s hard to compare Anderson and Bones right now. Yes, Bones Jones is the most dominant force outside of Anderson right now, but until he makes a few heads turn at heavyweight, I don’t think he could be considered on par with Anderson. Not yet. That isn’t taking away from Jones, who really should end up being the greatest of all time, but he uses his size to overwhelm smaller opponents, and utilizes his reach (albeit in genius fashion) to decimate those standing across from him. Anderson just straight up dominates and does whatever he wants. No necessary gameplan, pure destruction, rather than the more coached and for lack of a better word ‘disciplined’ havoc that Jon Jones wreaks on his opponent.

Vitor Belfort is a good example to juxtapose.

Vitor vs. Anderson: Anderson pulls a few of his patented Matrix moves then knocks Vitor out with a front kick, something that is really, really hard to do to The Phenom.

Bones vs. Vitor: Bones gets one of his lengthy limbs caught in an armbar, damaging his arm, but he overcomes and then destroys Vitor for the next 15 minutes. Jones takes Vitor down, elbows him and in general uses his Gog-given abilities to shut Vitor down.

Two very different fights that ended with Vitor losing, but I think they are good example of how these two men work quite differently. Anderson is Michael Jordan and Jon Jones is Shaq. Both amazing, both different.

But back to Chael. He was on FOX’s Sports Radio show and had this to say.

“I think there’s a big gap between them,” “I think that Jon Jones is considerably better, I think he’s the best talent our sport has ever seen.”

“Jon comes out there with something new every time,” he said. “Some trick that it appears he’s making up. Stuff I’ve never seen.”

“I am 100 percent offense and from the second the referee says, ‘Go.’ I will. I will come across and I will bring the fight to him,” Sonnen said. “I may go down, he’s a good fighter I may go down, but I promise you I will go like a gangster and I will be firing the entire time.”

Does Chael even stand a little bit of a chance against a guy who is ‘bigger and better’ (well, obviously bigger) than Anderson?
