UFC 181: Khabib Nurmagomedov wants winner of Pettis vs Melendez title fight

UFC on FX: Weigh In

Russian Sambo champion and undefeated UFC No. 2 contender Khabib Nurmagomedov is nearly ready to make his return to the Octagon in 2015, and he wants to fight for UFC gold.

“The Eagle” boasts a 22-0 record, including six straight victories inside the Octagon. In his last bout, Nurmagomedov dominated current No. 3 ranked lightweight contender Rafael Dos Anjos via unanimous decision.

Unfortunately for the Russian, he suffered a debilitating knee injury that kept him on the shelf for the second half of 2014. When he returns in early 2015, Nurmagomedov expects to fight for the UFC title, and he wants a crack at the winner of tomorrow’s lightweight title fight in the co-main event on UFC 181:

It will be interesting to see if UFC complies with Nurmagomedov’s request, or requires the Russian to fight in a No. 1 contender bout upon his return in either February or March.
