UFC 137 is Still Worth the Watch Without GSP vs Condit

UFC 137 Penn vs DiazBy @Greg Riot

Now that the GSP vs Condit fight is out of UFC 137 due to GSP’s knee, is the event still worth the watch? Definitely. Below is a list of my 3 favorite fights on this card, they will give you more than enough reason to tune into UFC 137: Penn vs Diaz going down Saturday, October 29th in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Interestingly enough, the BetDSI Sportsbook played it smart and posted even betting odds for the first two fights listed below:

BJ Penn vs Nick Diaz

This fight is highly anticipated not just because both fighters are exciting to watch, but because fight fans and sports betters are going to have a hard time predicting who will come out on top. Both fighters are very well rounded but I believe the majority give the stand up advantage to Diaz and the ground advantage to Penn. That being said Penn will most likely be looking for takedowns so that he can attempt submissions while Diaz will be looking to keep the fight standing to score a KO win. Both fighters have never been submitted but they have both lost twice via TKO and lost 5 times to decision.

Cheick Kongo vs Matt Mitrione

These two fighters have one thing in common that always makes for an exciting fight: one punch KO power. Although Kongo is the MMA veteran and Matt is only coming into his sixth pro MMA fight, this fight can go either way.

Mirko Filipović vs Roy Nelson

Just as Kongo vs Mitrione fight will probably be one sided with Kongo dominating, Mirko will most likely dominate Nelson. Nelson a lot of pro MMA experience and will be coming in weighing over 30lbs heavier than Mirko so you can’t totally count him out. Although Nelson might not look like it, he is a smart fighter. He knows how to use his weight to his advantage on the ground and against the cage and he is good at finding and exploiting his opponent’s weaknesses.
