The final goal left for Anderson Silva is to complete his dream of facing Roy Jones Jr. in a boxing match

Anderson-Silva-and-Roy-Jones-Jr

Being one of the most successful UFC fighters of all-time and being world renown because of his MMA skills is not the end all be all dream for Anderson Silva, fighting formerly great, turned not so great boxer Roy Jones Jr.

Once one of the best pound-for-pound boxers when he was in his prime, Jones Jr. once boasted a record of 49-1 (the one loss came via a disqualification for hitting Montel Griffin when he as down on one knee) before his career fell apart.

Losing to Antonio Tarver in 2004, Jones has gone 7-7 in his last 14 bouts, and has lost by early stoppage in four of those seven losses.

Jones, whose career started in 1989, has been fighting past his prime since around 2004 and hasn’t fought since June of 2012.

A MMA and boxing bout between Jones Jr. and Rampage Jackson was said to have been in the works for later this year, but ultimately the Jackson-Tito Ortiz bout was set up instead.

Even though Silva is not a boxer by trade, he does have KO power—winning by KO in his last four wins—at this point Jones’ skills are diminished and his ability to take a punch not at all what it once was. You can make a solid arguement that Silva would be a favorite if the two were ever to meet in a boxing ring.

As Silva stated, he has trained with hall of fame trainer Freddie Roach in the past and putting in some serious time with Roach would only heighten the chance that Silva beats Jones Jr. in a match.

Silva is coming off his first loss since 2006 which is largely due to Silva showboating and not taking Chris Weidman seriously in their bout in July. Silva will get his chance to avenge his KO loss on Dec. 28 in Las Vegas at the MGM Grand Garden, as the two fighters will headline UFC 168.

The fight wouldn’t be easy on the eyes and would be purely for shock value to see how a seasoned MMA legend would do against a boxing legend with the ability to do nothing more than punch.

It will remain to be seen if the fight ever comes to fruition, but needless to say most fans of either combat sport will be interested, but won’t be holding their breath if the fight is made or not.
