Shane Mosley breaks down Adrien Broner vs. Paulie Malignaggi

On June 22nd, Adrien Broner will be jumping two weight divisions to meet Paulie Malignaggi at the welterweight limit of 147 pounds. Many are making a issue of the undefeated fighter making such a drastic jump in weight but with his talent and power, the added weight should be no problem for Broner to handle.

Possible opponent of the winner of the Broner-Malignaggi showdown, “Sugar” Shane Mosley, thinks the weight could be an issue for Broner but that may just be wishful thinking. In this video, he shares his thoughts on the fight and gives his prediction on what may happen.

Broner has shown each time he made a jump in weight that he is still the ultra-talented, powerful fighter no matter what weight he has fought at. Although Broner is making a two-division jump, he should still be about the same fighter that we saw in his last fight at 135 pounds, when he disposed of Gavin Reese in five rounds.

Malignaggi, who has been TKO’d in two of his three losses, has shown that he is susceptible to being stopped early and if Broner’s power carries over to welterweight. The step up in competition is another hurdle for Broner to jump, as Malignaggi will easily be the best fighter Broner has seen in his 26-fight career.

With both fighters being counter punchers, Mosley is on to something when he says the fight could end up being a boring one. At some point in the bout one of the two fighters will have to start taking chances to gain an edge in the fight. Once that takes place we could see whoever becomes more aggressive be open to counter shots, which could play to Broner’s favor as Malignaggi would most likely be the aggressor.

Mosley would make for a good name to add to either Broner’s or Malignaggi’s resume’s if the winner does in fact meet with “Sugar”, but Mosley’s prime has come and gone and he will offer little in the way of a real challenge to either Broner or Malignaggi.

Before that can even be considered Broner and Malignaggi have to handle their business and Broner could cement his star in the sport, capturing a title in a third weight class at the young age of 23.
