Last week in Las Vegas, former heavyweight champion of the world Mike Tyson held a charity event to raise money for his foundation, Mike Tyson Cares. The mission of the Mike Tyson Cares Foundation is to aide underprivileged kids and provide them with innovative centers that help them escape the broken or socio-economic hardships they may be feeling at home. The centers include healthcare assistance, shelter, school assistance, mentoring, job placement assistance and such other needs as determined by the center for the overall well being of the child.
For Tyson, it is a way to give back after years of “self centeredness” ( we are not sure if that is even a word) as the former champion feels this could be something that outshines his boxing legacy. The former heavyweight champion auctioned off items such as his shoes, his WBC heavyweight title belt, trunks worn by Muhammed Ali and Roy Jones Jr. and many others. Celebrity guests were in attendance as well as hip hop artist RayJ, comedian George Wallace, MMA fighter Frank Trigg as well as Roy Jones Jr. and Jim Lampley all made a appearance.
