XFC 14: Resurrection – Florida Fighters and Jamie Varner Looking To Make Statements With Victories
By DJ Mackie
Tonight at XFC 14: Resurrection is in Orlando, Fl and FightHubTV will be there for all the action and results as two fighters who were formerly considered at the top of the heap at Featherweight and Lightweight of the promotion, will be looking to get their respected careers back on track at the expense of each other.
One of the XFC’s top ranked Featherweight contenders, Bruce Connors (8-3) will be meeting former XFC Lightweight Champion John Mahlow (12-12) in a bout that will be at a catch-weight of 150lbs to kick off the main card of XFC 14 which will be air live on HD Net.
Bruce Connors is a former top ranked XFC Featherweight contender who has always been a main stay at the top of the Featherweight division in Floridaand is considered one of the best at 145 in the state by his peers. Connors has ran into a little bit of difficulties as of late in his career, losing his last two bouts to Bogdan Christea and Micha Miller respectively after starting out his career out 7-1, with all 7 victories coming by 1st round stoppages. “The Noose” has rightfully earned his moniker by stopping his first 5 opponents with first round stoppages via choke and he has a knack for stopping fights before they get out of the first round and will be looking to do so when he faced Mahlow tonight. Mahlow has lost a majority of his fights by submission, Connor’s has for sure taken that into account and will be looking to duplicate that success.
John Mahlow has a 12-12 record in his career and is the former XFC Lightweight Champion. He earned that title by beating a man that many consider to be Florida’s best at lightweight, Luis Palomino. The two fought in 2008 with Mahlow gaining the victory with a 5th round rear naked choke. Since that time he has only fought twice: Against Rafaello Oliveara in 2009 and Junior Assuncao in March of 2010, both under the XFC banner before taking a break from the sport,. He lost both of those bouts, which has seen both of his opponents now calling the UFC octagon home. Mahlow will be looking to follow in their footsteps and will need a victory over Connors to do so. A victory would not only put him back on the map inFlorida rankings but in the landscape of MMA promoters as well.
Look for both of these fighters to come out strong and to put on a fight thatFloridafans will enjoy for the local MMA scene and could draw new fans with the card being televised nationally. They both will be looking to get their careers back on track with a victory over the other and when a fighter is backed against the cage, it usually is the recipe for a good fight. Having the capability by both men to end the fight early, it will definitely be a fight that fans will want to see.
Aside from this hometown favorite, the card features former WEC lightweight champion Jamie Varner (17-6-1) who will be looking to rebound after disappointing performances against Team Oxedine’s Nate Jolly (10-3). Serving as the main event, this bout will be huge for Jolly if he can record a win over theArizonawrestler. Varner is a tested opponent with strong boxing in his regime, if he can find his timing and land powerful shots, it may deliver as a well needed win on his path back to a championship.
