War On The Valley Isle-Maui Full Recap

By: Ken Yates

Unorthodox Industries Championship along with KK Productions put together Maui’s first MMA event in almost a year and the fight fans of Maui showed their appreciation by filling the venue to max capacity. If you have never been to an MMA event in Maui then that is something I suggest you put on your to do list. Not only will you see great fights but the friendly people of Maui will always make you feel right at home.

The nights main event was Maui native Eddie Perrell whose record stands at (10-4) taking on Spencer Higa from the Big Island of Hawaii. Both fighters possess strong stand up skills and have fought some of Hawaii’s top MMA fighters but it was Eddie’s quick ground game that made the difference in this fight. Early in the bout he scored a take down and worked to secure an arm bar. Higa worked his way free and tried to hit the corner but Eddie transitioned into a beautiful triangle choke forcing Higa to tap out early in the first round.

In the co-main event it was the X-1 World Light Weight Champion Max “Lil Evil” Halloway taking on top Hilo fighter Eddie Rincon in a lightweight tilt. Both Max and Eddie hit one another with some serious power punches and crazy combinations that may have folded a lesser man, but these guys put on a show for fight fans in attendance and were not willing to give in. When push came to shove it was Halloway earning a unanimous decision. “It was a three round war, basically a kick boxing match with mma gloves,” said Halloway of the bout. “All respect goes out to Rincon who never tried to shoot in for a take down. He came to scrap”.

Also featured on the nights card was (7-2) Rilley “The Perfect Storm” Dutro. Dutro trains out of Maui I&I Training Center as he went against (5-2) H.I.B.C and Hawaii top team stand out Timothy Meeks. The two provided an all-out battle that kept the crowd on the edge of their seats. For the entire duration of the bout these two tough fighters epitomized the warrior spirit and fought their hearts out for the crowd. In the end there can only be one winner and Friday night was Dutro’s night.
