UFC Fight Night 48 main card picks and analysis

The UFC returns with a doubleheader tomorrow beginning with UFC Fight Night 48: Bisping vs. Le in the wee hours of Saturday morning live on UFC Fight Pass from Macao, China.

Headlining the card will be an important middleweight tilt featuring perennial contender Michael Bisping and former StrikeForce middleweight champion Cung Le. Both men need an impressive victory if they have title aspirations in 2015.

In the co-main event, two top ten welterweights collide when the streaking 10th ranked Dong Hyun Kim meets the No. 4 ranked Tyron Woodley. This bout has title implications written all over it for both men, so an impressive win from either could skyrocket them to the top of the rankings.

Here are FightHubTV’s predictions for the UFC Fight Night 48 main card:

Ning Guangyou vs. Yang Jianping: Yang Jianping by Submission Round 2

This fight has been in the making for quite some time as it will serve as the TUF China featherweight finale that was supposed to occur back in March. Although these two men are the finalists of the show, there is really nothing to look forward to with either of the two men. Both are mediocre fighters at best who were given this shot solely due to the market expansion into China. Expect a sloppy brawl, but Jianping will take home the submission victory.

Zhang Lipeng vs. Brendan O’Reilly: Brendan O’Reilly by Submission Round 1

This fight could honestly go either way, as neither man has the outright advantage. Expect yet another sloppy brawl that should at the very least be entertaining and end via a finish. O’Reilly is undefeated and has a penchant for finishing fights via submission. Lipeng has a penchant for losing via submission, having 5 of 7 career losses due to subs, so I expect him to get choked out in the first round.

Tyron Woodley vs. Dong Hyun Kim: Tyron Woodley by Unanimous Decision

Finally! Fights that people actually care about. Okay, so joking aside this fight could be wildly entertaining or a snoozefest. I am leaning towards the former, but I am likely being optimistic. Both men could knock each other out, but considering Kim’s newfound wild striking style, I expect Woodley to close the distance and get this fight on the mat. Kim is no slouch on the ground, however, but I think Woodley can dominate with his wrestling prowess. I see this going three rounds in a fun fight, but Woodley will not leave that cage without the win.

Michael Bisping vs. Cung Le: Michael Bisping via TKO Round 3

Michael Bisping simply can not lose this fight. He is younger, more athletic, and overall a much better fighter than Cung Le is. With that being said, we still have not seen the Bisping of old since his horrific eye injury, and that could lead to Le landing a bomb and putting Bisping out early. If Bisping can take Le into the third round, he likely will have Le gassed out, and will finish him with strikes from the top.
