The Ultimate Fighter has become somewhat stale over the last several years. With the show providing a paltry number of UFC contenders over the last several seasons, the show has become repetitive and bland.

To shake things up for the 20th season, the UFC opted to produce a new format featuring solely women, put a title up for grabs, and unveil a brand new division as well.

Even with all the changes and widespread excitement throughout the MMA media, the TUF 20 debut this past Wednesday pulled the worst ratings in TUF history with only 536k tuning in according to MMAPayout. The ratings are nearly 10% down from the TUF 19 premiere last year.

What does this all mean? Well, for starters it shows that TUF is a dying breed even when the UFC attempts to pull out all of the stops.

The worst part of it all is the fact that the debut was actually exceptional, and the fights and talent offered on this season far outweigh seasons from the past.

Expect the ratings to continue to drop unless something major occurs that catches regular viewer’s attention.
