Roundup of fight announcements for September 18th

overeem vs browne

The MMA world never sleeps, so if you miss out on one day’s news, you could have potentially missed out on your favorite fighter signing a new bout agreement.

Yesterday was chock full of exciting fight announcements, so we wanted to take the time to recap the fights made official yesterday while giving our preliminary thoughts on each bout.

Moving forward, any day that has a lot of fight announcements will be recapped the next day for your pleasure and convenience.

UFC on FOX 13

Junior dos Santos vs. Stipe Miocic: This was the fight that was supposed to go down at the TUF Brazil 3 Finale before JDS pulled out with an injury. Considering that these two are among the best heavyweights in the world, this fight could very well be a No. 1 contender bout.

Alistair Overeem vs. Stefan Struve: Overeem is getting his last shot in the UFC here, and they were gracious enough to give him an opponent with a name that also has a penchant for getting knocked out. This fight could very well be a loser-leaves-town type of affair.

Derek Brunson vs. Ed Herman: Brunson won his last fight, but it was a snoozefest. Herman is also coming off a win, and always puts on a good show. I expect this to be a barnburner.

Bryan Barberena vs. Joe Ellenberger: Barberena is a top notch prospect from MMA Lab in Arizona, and he gets his UFC debut coming off a six fight win streak in the UFC’s first trip to Arizona. While the luck of the draw is on his side, Joe Ellenberger is nobody’s stepping stone.

Other bouts:

Todd Duffee vs. Anthony Hamilton at UFC 181: Todd Duffee is back!

Yancy Medeiros vs. Joe Proctor at The Ultimate Fighter 20 Finale: Good fight for two up and comers. Nothing to write home about here though.
