Ross Pearson broke his foot moments before fighting Ryan Couture, but still pulled off the impressive win.

Imagine what kind of night it would’ve been if lightweight Ross Pearson decided that he couldn’t go on to fight Ryan Couture after breaking his foot warming up. First Gustaffson, now this? But the British banger carried on with his bum foot in impressive fashion, stopping Ryan Couture for the first time in the fighter’s life. Pearson admitted he broke the foot immediately after his win in his post-fight speech:

“I think I broke my foot in the back warming up,” he said after the fight. “The very first kick I threw hit the pad and then hit coach Eric Del Fierro’s elbow, and I was like, ‘Oh, what kind of night is this going to be?'”

That adds a bit of insult to Ryan Couture’s injury, wouldn’t you say? Let’s take this moment to reflect on the fact that if a professional athlete in any other sport broke their foot, they’d leave the game immediately and be tended to on the sidelines — not fighters though, this is one of those moments I’m proud to be a fight fan. Major props to Ross Pearson and let’s hope he can fight Joe Lauzon or someone similar next.
