Ronda Rousey on Cris Cyborg: ‘I don’t make fights. I just show up and win them’

Ronda Rousey is amongst the most polarizing figures in mixed martial arts history. On top of her incredible dominance as the UFC women’s bantamweight champion, the former Olympic medalist has starred in major Hollywood movies as well.

With many under the impression that Rousey’s time in MMA will come to an end someday soon, fans and pundits alike hope to one day see Rousey take on former StrikeForce and current Invicta featherweight champion Cris Cyborg Justino.

The fight has been speculated on since Rousey came into the UFC last year, but multiple hiccups along the road have impeded the process of the fight being made.

Among the issues was the fact that Cyborg said previously that she would die if she attempted to cut the additional 10 pounds to make the bantamweight limit. That statement put the UFC in a bind, as they could not schedule Cyborg to fight Rousey in a 135 pound title fight with the possibility of Cyborg missing weight or becoming deathly ill as a result of the weight cut.

With the UFC’s new partnership with Invicta FC, Cyborg will likely attempt a fight at 135 pounds, and if she wins could potentially get the title shot in the UFC against Rousey in what would be likely the biggest WMMA fight in history.

Rousey is currently in Macao alongside UFC president Dana White for the UFC Fight Night 48 event this weekend. Today, Rousey and White sat down for a quick Q & A, and the very first question was regarding when we would see Rousey take on Cyborg.

Before Dana White could say anything, Rousey interrupted noting that “I’d love that too, but I don’t make fights, I just show up and win them.”

After Rousey’s blurb, Dana explained the entire situation from his point of view, but never stated that the fight would not happen.
