Ronda Rousey and Cris Cyborg exchange heated barbs

UFC women’s bantamweight champion “Rowdy” Ronda Rousey is one of, if not the most, dominant champion in the UFC today.

Her current competition in the UFC seemingly does not stack up, with challengers falling by the wayside every time Ronda steps into the Octagon.

The one challenge most pundits and fans see for Ronda is currently not employed by the UFC. The woman we are speaking of is of course none other than Invicta featherweight champion Cris Cyborg.

Considering the UFC’s new partnership with Invicta, and Cyborg’s willingness to cut to 135 pounds for her next Invicta fight, it seems that it is only a matter of time before Ronda and Cyborg duke it out for the title in the Octagon.

Although a matchup is likely far away, it has not stopped the two women from talking trash to one another outside the cage.

Rousey spoke with Brazilian media earlier this week during her trip in Rio De Janeiro, and lambasted the Invicta featherweight champion.

“(Cyborg) doesn’t have any feeling in her punches, she pushes her punches. She can’t knock people out with one punch, she just overwhelms them,” Rousey told MMAFighting. “My pace, nobody can overwhelm me. And the way that she is on the ground, it’s absolute horrendous. And her distance is absolute horrendous. The only thing that she has is pace and power, and I have pace, precision and power.”

Rousey then delved into Cyborg’s history of a failed drug test due to PED’s back in 2011.

“The reason why people dope is because they lack self-confidence,” Rousey continued. “The reason why she was using steroids is because that girl does not believe that the best that she has is good enough, and that will always be there in her mind. And you know what, she’s right. The best that she has isn’t good enough, even on drugs.”

When Cyborg caught wind of Rousey’s comments, she was quick to lash back with comments of her own.

“What she says means nothing to me,” Cyborg told MMAFighting. “A person is visiting my country and trying to defame me with my fans to get attention shows you how uneducated she is. She’s a low-level person. She feels she has to step on someone in order to rise.”

Cyborg then harped on the fact that Rousey is seemingly picking and choosing her opponents instead of letting the matchmakers do their job.

“As always, (Rousey) is trying to pick her next opponent,” Cyborg continued. “She is running away from me and asking to fight Bethe (Correia),” she said. “If she was so sure about everything she says, she would have already accepted to fight me like she accepted to fight Gina Carano at any weight, fight Cain Velasquez, (Floyd) Mayweather. Grow up, Ronda.”

Although Cyborg will still need to prove she can make 135 pounds, and win, a fight with Rousey in 2015 seems like the biggest fight the UFC can make in the women’s division.
