Former StrikeForce middleweight champion and current No. 4 middleweight contender in the UFC, Ronaldo “Jacare” Souza is gearing up for his highly anticipated rematch with Gegard Mousasi at UFC Fight Night 50 in just over a week.

That bout is being considered by many to be a No. 1 contender fight in the division, but according to Jacare himself, he believes he has already done enough by winning three straight inside the Octagon to have fought for the belt (Courtesy of BloodyElbow):

Based on the divisional ranking, I believe that I should already have fought for the title. I think that I’m close to my goal, which is fighting for the belt, but I don’t think much about it, I have to beat Mousasi first.

Jacare lost to Mousasi in their first bout, which occurred back in 2008 at Dream 6 for the vacant middleweight title. Jacare got a quick takedown, but Mousasi landed a perfectly timed upkick that knocked out Jacare in just over two minutes into the first round.

On September 5th, Jacare will look for redemption while attempting to earn a UFC title shot against the winner of the UFC middleweight title bout between Chris Weidman and Vitor Belfort.
