Nate Diaz is calling for more weight classes in the UFC.

Nate Diaz and Josh Thomson

On Saturday night Nate Diaz was TKOd by Josh Thomson. This marks the first time a Diaz brother was finished outside the KJ Noons cut at Elite XC since Jeremy Jackson finished Nick in 2002. Two brothers, a bunch of fights, a decade passed. It’s quite a milestone for Josh Thomson actually, the perennially injured lightweight contender who hasn’t finished anyone in the last four years outside of Pat Healy. And now in the fallout of UFC on FOX 7, Nate is calling for more weight classes.

It makes sense coming from Nate; it looked like he’s had a difficult time cutting to 155 pounds in his last few outings, and a 163 pound division might be what he’s looking for, but doesn’t that dilute the talent pool?

I will have to defer to my homies on the other side of FightHub on this one. I personally don’t care for the seemingly millions of weight classes on boxing’s side, and I don’t want to disrupt the history we have going at these weights. Granted, the sport is ridiculously young, so maybe this needs to happen?
