Martin Kampmann talks Johny Hendricks, feels St-Pierre will quit if Condit hurts him

So for the three people out there who did not realize that UFC welterweight champion, Georges St-Pierre is returning after over eighteen months out of action from injury and rehab, pay attention and gather the change from the couch and ashtrays, order UFC 154 this Saturday night and watch the French Canadian do what he does best, win.

Not to discredit the opponent and interim champ, Carlos Condit, but there is another welterweight bout happening with two men barking for their own spot in a main event title match; Martin Kampmann and Johny Hendricks. These two will trade for fifteen minutes (I pray this delivers and does not go the distance) in hopes for the next step towards the top.

Catching up with “The Hitman” in Las Vegas, Fight Hub TV’s Michael Mardones asked him his thoughts on the title fight and what he thinks the outcome could be.

“Carlos is a tough guy, he does not stop. I know and hold a win over him, I would love to fight him again, especially for the title if he wins this weekend, and I think he can… I think if he hurts Georges, he will win because Georges will shut down. Look at what happened against Matt Serra, he got hurt and he quit.”

Valid point or lucid dream from the Dutchman? Looking at the fight against Serra, it makes a valid point even though GSP has admitted he was not in the best mental state for that bout. Others say this is true of the 170lb king and he lacks the mental toughness to win during a fight he is hurt or losing.

The man fought with a torn groin at UFC 100 and continued to dominate Thiago Alves. His eye was being banged out of his skull by Jake Shields at UFC 129 and he still beat the most over hyped fighter from Strikeforce. My honest thoughts – GSP does not like to lose and it may affect his mental edge but after the injury and time away, it appears he has rounded out all the rough edges in his game and will look to dominate and finish the “Natural Born Killer” come fight night.
