Judd Brown: “Winning a championship will open doors for me”

Judd Brown is an amateur welterweight fighter out of Nikao MMA in Rogersville, TN who made his debut August 2011 in Virginia and has gone on to achieve a record of 2-0 with two stoppages. He will be looking to make that three in a row on Friday night when he takes on Steve Thomas for the vacant 3FC Welterweight Championship. The bout will be featured on the 3FC VIII: The Return card which will take place at the Smokey Mountain Convention Center in Pigeon Forge, TN. Fighthubtv.com was recently able to catch up with Brown just a couple of days before his bout on Friday night:

Can you tell everyone a little about yourself and where you train?

Brown: I’m just a normal kid. I train at Nikao MMA and my trainer is Korey Popplewell. I never really was into fighting, I never even watched UFC or boxing or anything. About a year ago one of my buddies invited me to an mma class, and I stuck with it a week, and turned out to be one of the top ones in the class, and I love the people I train with. So I stuck with it.

You are 2-0 right now with two stoppages, what do you feel you need to do to get win and stoppage number three on Friday night?

Brown: I believe 100% that if I do exactly what my coach has taught me that I will win. We’ve trained hard in the past weeks and it will for sure show in this upcoming fight.

You are fighting for the vacant 3FC Welterweight Title, what would it mean to you to become the 3FC Welterweight Champ?

Brown: It would mean a lot for me. Gaining this title will open up a lot of opportunities for me, plus a nice shiny belt makes the gym look spiffy.

How do you feel you match up with Steve Thomas?

Brown: I don’t know the guy, but knowing that he is from Casey Oxendine’s gym helps me out some. Casey is a good coach and even better guy. We’ve been working take down defense and getting up off the cage for the past couple weeks. So I plan on keeping it standing. Should be a good show. It will be a close match up if we stand and brawl.

What is next for you after Friday night?

Brown: I already have another title fight set up on the 27th for the number one contender belt in Cage Brawl. So After this upcoming fight, I have to hit the gym twice as hard for another shot at a title.

Thanks for the time, is there anything you would like to say to your fans and supporters out there?

Brown: I would just like to thank all my friends and family and thank Korey Popplewell and everybody down at Nikao MMA. I would be nowhere with out them, and I wish a fast recovery to my buddy Darren Haun.
