Quite a few people booed and hollered when Jon Jones delayed his next title fight against Glover Teixeira (who I think has a great chance to defeat Bones), but if the champ isn’t ready, he just isn’t ready. We have to respect a fighter wanting to fight at 100%. It’s really the least the fans could do, right? Besides, Jones also wants to spend a Christmas out of the desert, which I can’t knock him for either. Props to Bones. He’s earned this, no doubt.

His last few battles have certainly taken their toll, even if one battle was complete domination and his toe popped of for no good reason, and Bones is just beat up, man. He’s still feeling the Gustafsson fight, and he told MMA Junkie that his body wasn’t ready.

“The reason why I didn’t take the fight is because I don’t feel my body is ready for a training camp, I wanted to be there for the fans, I wanted to be there for the UFC, but in order for me to do that, I need to listen to my body and come prepared to compete, and that’s being healthy.”

“My eye is definitely not ready to be punched, I’m afraid that it could reopen, which would make scarring terrible and prolong the whole thing even more. My foot is definitely not ready to go yet. I wake up to step off the bed, and it’s cracking and crackling and stuff. I’m just not ready for the training camp.”

“I’ve spent the last three Christmases in Albuquerque, and I really want to just be with my family back in New York state and let my kids see Christmas the way it’s supposed to be. That’s a big reason why I kind of delayed that next fight until March.”

Another month isn’t even that long in the grand scheme of things.
