Gennadiy Golovkin, the absolute middleweight phenom who has taken the boxing world by storm ever since he burst onto the scene a few years ago, did it again. Tonight, in Foxwoods Resort Casino, he faced his toughest test to date in Matthew Macklin. Macklin recently went 11 rounds with the guy who people consider to be the best middleweight in the world currently, Sergio Martinez.

It was said that GGG gets hit a lot, and how would he react to a true middleweight such as Macklin was called into question. Well, we found out that he will respond by punching his liver so hard that it seemingly imploded upon itself creating a black hole that absorbed all of Foxwoods casino and neighboring towns.

It was a impressive performance from the native of Kazakhstan. Who appeared to just be in a feeling out process early on, not getting overly aggressive even though nearly every punch he landed snapped Macklin’s head back, even rocking him with a slick straight right left hook combination at the end of the first round.

Two rounds later, it was all over in one of the best body shots of the year, GGG threw a picture perfect left hook to the body, you can see the expression on Macklin’s face almost as if he’s questioning his own existence. Absolutely brutal.

So what’s next for The Good Boy? A hot name being thrown around right now is the Freddie Roach trained product Peter Quillin. But let’s be honest with ourselves — Sergio Martínez at the age of 38 isn’t getting any younger, re-injuring his hand and knee nearly every time he steps into the ring, you have to wonder how much does he have left in the tank and will it cause him to bow out from the sport? This is the fight to make right now, Golovkin vs. Martinez, sign me up.
