It’s Easter Sunday. I should be preparing to go visit the family so I can eat some guilt-laden ham, but all I can think about is UFC on FOX 11, and the brilliant performances therein. If anyone denies Fabricio Werdum as the clear number one contender in the UFC heavyweight division, they’re plain nuts. Fabricio Werdum put on a clinic last night in Orlando, and reassured all of us that even with a year off, he’s done nothing but improve his overall game.

Let’s break it down – Fabricio Werdum is the most deadly ground fighter in the heavyweight division, if not the UFC. He’s coupled that prowess on the ground with striking that has come together immensely over the last two years. Beyond the first minute, Travis Browne looked completely outclassed by Werdum on the feet. Werdum’s chin is as solid as any heavyweight, he can get it done with his fists or feet, and his takedowns are overwhelming.

While Cain is a massive challenge for anyone, it’s clear that Werdum can present a greater challenge that the now seemingly one-dimensional JDS. And if Cain beats Werdum, at least we can see a rematch between Werdum and JDS. That needs to happen. Werdum is not the same man that fought JDS all those years ago.

For now, let’s enjoy our Easter dinners, comfortable in the fact that these divisions are shaking out into some very interesting matchups between the best fighters. That’s all we could ever ask.
