Dana White: Georges St-Pierre would get title shot upon return

UFC 124: Koscheck v St-Pierre

The UFC’s welterweight division is among the most stacked in all of mixed martial arts. When you consider that arguably the world’s best welterweight, longtime UFC champion Georges St-Pierre, is currently on a sabbatical from MMA, it really puts into perspective just how stacked the division truly is.

St-Pierre left the sport last November after defending his title at UFC 167 in a hard fought battle with current UFC welterweight champion Johny Hendricks. Among St-Pierre’s personal reasons for leaving the sport was lax drug testing, but with the sport’s most recent changes in the drug testing field, St-Pierre could soon return to the Octagon.

If GSP does decide to return, UFC president Dana White stated recently that he would get any fight he desires, whether it is a title fight or something else.

“It would be tough to deny that GSP comes right back and doesn’t fight for the title, you know what I mean?” White told UFC.com. “GSP can do whatever he wants. If he wants to come back and fight for the title, or if he wants a fight before that – he can do whatever he wants.”

As for Dana’s personal thoughts on whether or not GSP will return to the Octagon, he believes the former champion still has the competitive juices in him.

“It’s always a huge debate on a guy who’s had a career like GSP – to go out on top and walk away with the belt,” White continued. “That’s a personal decision that a fighter has to make. Being the competitor that GSP is, I can’t see GSP [walking away yet]. But that’s up to him.
