Dan Henderson: “I got caught.”

UFC Fight Night: Belfort v Henderson

I’m still reeling, totally bummed that Hendo finally fell due to strikes. I’m not even a huge Hendo fan, it’s just that I love streaks. I don’t want to see sports streaks end, no matter how good or bad. I grew up in Chicago and every year I cheer for the Cubs to lose. I just want to see how incredible the heights of the record can get. But in MMA, most records are painful to watch when they are broken. So ends Dan Henderson’s streak of 39 fights without ever losing to strikes. Between this TKO and Anderson Silva’s, it’s been a rough year. But I guess this is like weird karma for knocking out Fedor?

I hope he retires, but we also have this little fight to make

“I got caught with a  nice little uppercut,” said Hendo. “I felt like I was still aware of what was going on. I know he threw a head kick, and I was definitely dazed, for sure. But I would like to maybe fight out of it a little bit. But the ref is there to protect us, so I can’t complain too much.”

“I’m definitely not done. I got caught tonight and… you know, I was ready to go for this fight and I just got caught. That happens, I guess, after 16 years, it’s bound to happen.”

“I’m just going to continue getting back in there and win fights. This one I definitely got caught and got finished, and the last two could have easily went my way, and didn’t, so I’ve had some unfortunate luck the last three fights. But my body feels good and able to continue, and honestly, I haven’t felt this good in a while. So it’s just a bad night tonight.”
