Cris Cyborg hopes to make 135 by the end of summer

Quentin Tarantino’s Grandpappy once said, “If you make declarative statements, you are apt to look foolish in retrospect.” I earnestly believe this is the path Cris Cyborg is heading down, as she is merely talking. Talk is talk – it gets you nowhere. If you claim that Ronda is running from you (she’s not), maybe you need to:

A. Get in the same promotion as her.

B. Don’t get popped for steroids.

C. Make weight.

Until that happens, you just sound like Tito Ortiz is your manager. You can see in Ronda’s physique that 135 is her weight class, not 145, and if Cyborg wants to fight Ronda, then make the weight. The onus is not on Ronda. That’s like Cain Velasquez calling out Chris Weidman. Or Anderson Silva calling out GSP. If you want it so bad, then do what you need to do to get the fight. No one is running until they actually run. If Cyborg made 135, got into the UFC, won a few fights then Ronda denied fighting her, then that would be a different story.

“I (will) try to make 135, I will try. I think it’s very important to make 135 so I can fight for the belt, and because I want to keep that weight class because there are more girls I can fight. I can fight a superfight. I’m already the champ at 145 (she holds the featherweight title with Invicta). I don’t want to be selfish. I want one more belt. If I can fight at 135 for the belt, it’s okay. I can fight at 145 and be more healthy. But it’s not possible at 145 or a catch weight because Ronda is running from me. If I make 135, Ronda can’t run.”
