How perfect of a fight is Anthony Pettis vs. Donald Cerrone? Two in their prime fighters at the top of their game full of ability and willing to do whatever it takes to knock out another human being. It’s a beautiful thing. Throw in the fact that they’re vying for a top position in the mad scramble to figure out who is next in line at the UFC lightweight title after Gilbert Melendez and you have a recipe for Fight of the Night. Really, how will either of these guys (or both) not bring home some extra cash Saturday night in some form of a bonus?

Chicago may be host to the best fight of 2013 thus far. Take a look at this: using only his 7 UFC fights as a barometer, Donald Cerrone has brought home 6 ‘of the night’ bonuses. Pettis, in his three fights, has brought home 1 Knockout of the Night. Combined in WEC they have about a billion bonuses. That right there is scientific proof that we are going to see a great fight in three days.

This is what Cerrone said to the media about this long in the works fight:

“Our managers were trying to work it out back in the WEC days,” he said. “And when he came (to the UFC) to fight Clay (Guida), I was trying to rally for that fight. The Melvin (Guillard) fight, I was supposed to fight him there, but his shoulder got hurt. There was just a lot of spots along the way it was supposed to happen and it just never happened. Was it because of him ducking me? That could just be me talking s—. With him being injured, it’s just the way it is. But now here we are.”

It’s come out that Pettis thinks Cerrone may not wish to stand and trade, to that Cerrone says:

“Have you ever see me lay and pray? I’ve never once laid and prayed. My game plan against (Nate) Diaz should have been take him down and do the same thing and I didn’t. I have a feeling you want to stand and fight mother****er. Let’s go. And you can quote that.”
