Cain vs. Bigfoot 2 and JDS vs. The Reem at UFC 160?

MMA: UFC 146-Velasquez vs Silva

In a recent trip to Ireland to accept an award from the Trinity College in Dublin, UFC President Dana White let it be known via Twitter that he would be buying beers for whomever showed up at a pub after the gathering. It looks like a couple pints later and we have the first half of 2013 figured out for the UFC heavyweight division, and it’s almost too obvious of matchmaking to be real.

Granted, these are rumors, but damn solid ones.

First up: it looks like Bigfoot Silva has earned his second shot at Cain Velasquez, this time the UFC belt is on the line. Could this fight really go any differently? Next: the rumor laid out by Dana himself is that Junior dos Santos will take on Alistair Overeem to possibly decide a number one contender after both dudes lost their most recent fights.

Both of these fights are slated for UFC 160 if everything works out and everyone is healthy (please let everyone be healthy).

So that’s the top four of the UFC heavyweight division, but what about the rest of the division, what happens after this? Well, The winner of Cain/Bigfoot faces the winner of JDS/Overeem, then you have Daniel Cormier situation and whether he will ever go to 205, as he is rightfully one of the top contenders for Cain’s belt (but they are teammates and won’t fight) and the rest of the division.

  • Fabricio Werdum can make a very dangerous case for a shot if he beats Big Nog.
  • Frank Mir is always around, and rightfully so.
  • If Big Nog beats Werdum, he’s “in the mix.”
  • Then you have the likes of Roy Nelson and Stefan Struve.

For the want of a Josh Barnett.
