Anderson Silva: “Weidman shouldn’t consider it a win.”

Anderson Silva has been pretty quiet post-UFC 168, and no one blames him, but during his absence legions of fans went back and forth over “the kick” and whether it was a fluke injury, thus debasing Chris Weidman’s win yet again, just like the first fight in which Anderson clowned his way to getting knocked out.

I don’t blame Anderson for his opinion, I kind of share it. No one is looking to end a fight with a leg check, thus it’s a fluke. What’s even more flukey is the fact that his leg snapped. Weidman fans need to just get over it. Weidman is a great fighter, but he still doesn’t have a clean win over Anderson. At least the first win is cleaner than the second…

Silva said this during an interview to Globo:

“I believe that, if you pay attention to these technical details, you will see that (checking the kick) was instinct, not something that he trained to do,”

“No, I don’t think (Weidman should consider it a win). It was an accident. And I’m pretty sure I would have won the fight.”

“I can see some technical mistakes I did in the fight,” he said. “To land the perfect kick, I needed to distract him by punching him in the face so he wouldn’t pay attention to the kick. He was protecting the upper part of his body, and the raised leg instinctively. The kick was so strong he lost balance.”
