UFC 180 went down in Mexico City this evening, and what an event it turned out to be. Fabricio Werdum took home the interim UFC Heavyweight championship by knocking out Mark Hunt with a sensational flying knee in the second round of their main event fight.
Werdum’s knockout victory earned him an extra $50,000 in bonus money as he earned the Performance of the Night.
The other $50k winner for Performance of the Night came in the evening’s co-main event, as Kelvin Gastelum choked out Jake Ellenberger in the first round in stunning fashion. After getting rocked early, Gastelum recovered to pull off his biggest career victory in style.
The Fight of the Night went to undercard competitors Henry Briones and Guido Cannetti. Both men earned $50k with a sensational back-and-forth battle that saw both men hurt on multiple occasions. After Cannetti dominated the first round, Briones rebounded in the second when he clipped his opponent before finishing him off with a rear-naked choke.
