UFC 179 Quick Results: Jose Aldo retains title in rematch with Chad Mendes

The UFC returned from a three week sabbatical with a dreary fight card in UFC 179. The event, which aired on pay-per-view live from Rio De Janeiro Brazil, featured the featherweight title fight rematch between challenger Chad Mendes and champion Jose Aldo.

The pay-per-view was absolutely dreadful other than the exciting, but controversial, main event. Featuring four lopsided and not terribly exciting fights, UFC 179 may go down as one of the worst pay-per-views in quite some time.

In the main event that saved the evening, Chad Mendes and Jose Aldo put on a show in a wild back and forth, and controversial, fight. At the end of round 1, Aldo rocked Mendes badly with two shots clearly after the bell had rung, yet he was not docked a point. Ultimately, the champion left with the title still strapped around his waist, but it was unquestionably the biggest test of his career.
