Kenny Florian to JDS: “Don’t trade with (Hunt), it’s too dangerous.”

I’m currently rewatching The Ultimate Fighter season 1, and it’s incredible to see the career arcs for some of those fighters over the last decade. Sure, quite a few of them are retired, but Kenny is front and center every week for us now on UFC Tonight, and he’s breaking down fights, conducting interviews and dropping thought-provoking knowledge such as this for our fight-loving eyes and ears:

“Mark Hunt can knock anybody out. His leaping left hook is as deadly of a technique as we’ve seen in the UFC. We may very well see Junior Dos Santos revert to an offensive ground game. If I’m Junior Dos Santos’ coach, I’d say take Mark Hunt down, and don’t trade with him, that’s going to be too dangerous.”

Let’s all let out a collective ‘duh’ Kenny. We even ran an article about this very subject. Let’s face it: unless JDS feels like he has something to prove after losing to Cain, JDS will more than likely come in fast and try to take Hunt down. I mean, why even tempt fate? Mark Hunt could knock out the Statue of Liberty, no one has a chin that can withstand Hunt’s fist. Through his MMA and K-1 career, few have been able to withstand Hunt’s power.

But…

JDS is a very proud man. He wants to be regarded as the best there has ever been, but he’s also a cerbral fighter who knows what must be done in order to win the fight. Granted, he didn’t take down Roy Nelson or Shane Carwin, or Gilbert Yvel or Cro Cop, so perhaps he feels like he can withstand Hunt’s incomprehensible power.

When it comes to Hunt’s ground game, it’s underrated. What many people don’t know is that Hunt is a BJJ brown belt, and aside from that freak submission loss to Sean McCorkle to start his career, Hunt has actually looked damn solid on the ground. Sure, JDS is a black belt, but he hasn’t subbed any of his opponents since his second MMA fight ever. Will he really be able to get a hold of one of Hunt’s meaty limbs?

We will fing out at UFC 160 this Saturday. Damn, can’t wait. And I still can’t believe the #RallyForMarkHunt worked.
